Situated at an altitude of 1,600 meters, the great Baliem Valley holds Dani, Yali, and Lani Tribes. These tribes are direct survivors from the Stone Age. Every year, the three tribes held a ritual in the form of a small-scale war called the Baliem Valley Festival where warriors of the tribes throw spears to each other, accompanied by distinctive war cries of Dani people. By attending the Baliem Valley Festival, visitors will be treated with a chance to learn prominent traditions of the three tribes in Baliem Valley and experience the generosity of the indigenous people through a carnival by the Wamena Town. Completed with a feast of Papuan
culinary traditions, don’t forget to check out the Dani Market in Wamena and visit the traditional Wauma Village, along with other spots around the Baliem Valley.
