The island of Lombok, just east of Bali, will again be highlighted with a non-competition cycling event entitled Lombok Audax AXtreme 2015 scheduled to take place from 30th January to 2nd February 2015.
This is not the first time for Lombok to host such event. In September last year, the Indonesia Audax successfully staged the 1000km category in Lombok. This followed the 2013 edition where Lombok hosted the 600km category.
Audax is a cycling sport in which participants attempt to cycle long distances within a pre-defined time limit. Audax is a non-competitive sport: success in the event is measured by its completion. Audax has its origins in Italian endurance sports in the late nineteenth century, and the rules were formalized in France in the early twentieth century.
For 24 hours from 18.00 Central Indonesia Time to 18.00 Central Indonesia Time (the next day), cyclists will be taken to circle around the island with a maximal distance of 500km for the fast group and 430km for the normal group. At night, participants will complete 3 laps (for the normal group) and 4 laps (for the fast group). Each lap covers 40 to 100km. After each lap, participants can rest at The Santosa Hotel for about 2 hours as they await for all cyclists to return to the starting line for the next lap. At 04.00 Central Indonesia Time, all participants will ride together to complete the final lap of cycling around the island (250km).
Lombok Audax AXtreme also offers the 150 short course for those who cannot complete the full course. The course will start from Pusuk to Selengan. Here they will rendezvous with the rest of the participants to complete the Senggigi-Malimbu route together.
With divine beaches, enchanting small islands, the majestic Mt Rinjani, and spectacular marine life to discover, the island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara has no shortage of attractions both in and out of the water. It’s little wonder then that Lombok is the most popular destination in West Nusa Tenggara.
