Tadau Kaamatan is a joyous occasion celebrated by the Kadazandusun community in Sabah – held on 30th and 31st May – and it is a festival of thanksgiving, commemorating a bountiful harvest. Festivities include traditional sports such as buffalo racing, as well as a tapai (rice wine) competition, and the Unduk Ngadau (beauty pageant). Other interesting activities include cultural dances, and rituals culminating in the thanksgiving ceremony performed by the Bobohizan, or high priestess.
