Elephant Race Festival

To express the bond between human beings and this friendly creature, the festival brings to the boisterous atmosphere of the echo of gongs and the spectacular performances of the elephants from the Central Highlands forest. On this day, elephants from several villages gather at Don Village (Buon Don). Every ten elephants will run for about one to two kilometers; hence, the track’s ground should be even and broad enough. The competition is guided by the sound of tu va, a kind of horn. The first elephant which finishes the race will receive a laurel wreath as a sign of victory, and it will enjoy the achievement excitedly with sugar canes and bananas from surrounding people.
