Kaliurang Resort on the southern slopes of majestic Mount Merapi, in the Sleman Regency, in Yogyakarta Province will come alive with thousands of colorful lights and festivities when the Festival of Lights takes place from 16th June to 31st July 2017 centered at the Kaliurang Watchtower area. The event is presented by the Office of Tourism of Sleman Regency in collaboration with PT CIkal Bangsa.

Coinciding with the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan, the 45 days festival presents the theme: The Sparkles of Ramadhan. "The theme is chosen to illustrate the joy in conducting the fast rite during the month of Ramadhan and moreover, to celebrate the pinnacle day of Eid Al Fitr" explained Head of the Office of Tourism of Sleman Regency, Sudarningsih.

Overlooking the spectacular panorama of the Merapi Volcano, the Kaliurang Watchtower will be decorated with lanterns of all sizes, shapes, and colors. These range from roses, tulips, and other flowers; fish and other animals; wheatgrass and other unique plants; and a whole lot more. Bringing the desert ambience of the Middle East, there will also be a culinary bazaar highlighted with mouthwatering traditional foods and snacks as well as modern culinary treats.

This year, for the first time ever, the festival will introduce a Dancing Fountain Show. Combining art and technology, the dancing fountain show will be highlighted with bursts of flames, laser actions, and a water screen. "You don’t need to go to Singapore or other countries to enjoy a Dancing Fountain Show, just come to the Watchtower in Kaliurang" added Sudarningsih. The executive Director of the event, Solkin Swiji revealed that visitors only need to pay the entrance fee of IDR25,000 on weekdays and IDR30,000 on weekends to enjoy the show.

The addition of the Dancing Fountain show to the festival will complement the colorful and fun atmosphere of the Festival of Light 2017. And indeed, it adds to the variety of background for those perfect photographs and selfies.

Last year, the festival carried the theme "Dragon Castle" which brought myths and fairy tales to life through unique lamps and lanterns. While on the southern part, mini lamps were arranged beautifully to create the decoration of Romantic Lights and Sakura Lights. With the latest addition of the Dancing Fountain Show, this year’s festival promises to bring even more joy and excitement to all visitors.
