A major highlight of the local sports calendar, Singapore’s marquee running event comes with races for individuals, teams, the wheelchair-bound and kids, making it a truly inclusive celebration of sport.
Running the Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon is no cakewalk – you not only contend with over 50,000 runners seeking to beat their personal bests (or win the Marathon’s US$50,000 top prize outright); you will also get to challenge yourself in Singapore’s famously stifling, all-year-round humidity. But hey, no pain, no gain!
The Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon is held on the first Sunday of December, and ranks as one of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)’s few Gold Label Road Races. Runners who go the full 42.2km distance finish a virtual Singapore sightseeing tour – the route takes runners past Orchard Road, the Istana, Clarke Quay, East Coast Park and Marina Bay.
If you’re running in the Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon, you’ll benefit from the island-state’s famously thorough infrastructure – transportation via the MRT and bus system and plenty of hotel options around the island allow competitors to easily reach the starting line on time. Getting to the finish is completely up to you.
